Chemo Treatment Today ..
Gave blood yesterday as part of the normal procedure of the clinical trial protocol prior to any chemo treatment of this new drug. Last week my pancreas enzyme levels were just over what the researchers consider the safe zone so last week my chemo treatment was canceled.
The researchers did reduce the dosage I received and will stay with the same dosage going forward. This marks the second time the dose has been reduced due to this rise in enzyme levels. If my enzyme levels continue to be a problem, I may need additional drugs to force it to behave or it could possibly eject me from this clinical trial altogether. My rise in Pancreas enzyme levels left unchecked could lead to a chronic condition of the pancreas (known as Pancreatitis) and would ultimately result in Diabetes.
The researchers of this clinical trial are very careful to monitor the known reactions to this new drug. This is one of the known reactions discovers in the first stage testing that needs to be watched very closely. The other is “Hypertension” Hypertension can lead to damaged organs, as well as several illnesses, such as renal failure (kidney failure), aneurysm, heart failure, stroke, or heart attack so my blood pressure is monitored closely and since I do have a higher than average blood pressure as it is, my oncologist has me taking a blood pressure medication to keep it in check.
So far so good !!
